The typical infrared signal, varies in size from unit to unit and more importantly, it becomes larger as the distance increases. For instance, with a beam set up to cover a track 90 feet wide, the “beam” on the outside could reach over 1 foot in diameter. We have tested units measuring over 2 feet in diameter on the outside of the track. ( See image below).
In contrast, a low power laser beam is consistent in diameter. The average laser is a fraction of an inch from sending unit to the receiving end, and that translates into real and consistent accuracy.
The major cost of traditional timing installations is the miles of wiring that have to be buried in conduit around and across the track, making a new installation prohibitive from the infrastructure cost alone.
In response to this need, Autochart has leveraged its considered experience in wireless and solar power design, to create a system that is a breeze to install and run. No wiring, no power, no conduit, just the same high performance technology Autochart is known for.
