We are very pleased to announce that the optimization tests conducted at Belmont Park's training track have been successfully completed.
We wish to extend our deep appreciation to The New York Racing Association, Inc. for their generosity in hosting this process.

We also want to thank Bruce Johnstone who was instrumental in his assistance with the horsemen community.

While many have been supportive and friendly, we owe a debt of gratitude to Kiaran McLaughlin and his staff at McLaughlin Racing, Inc., especially to Artie Magnuson for their day to day support in allowing us to time and position their workouts.

The APS2 installation process is very flexible, fast and non invasive.

The entire installation can be completed using equipment already available at most facilities. A small auger, a small pay loader and a bucket truck or lift as those used by the electricians or cleaning crews are all the equipment needed.

Installation in three easy steps.

Since the entire system is wireless and runs on renewable solar power, there are no cables to run.

To install a point of call, a hole is created using the auger. The precast cement base is then lowered with the pay loader and roughly leveled. The lightweight aluminum post (65 lbs) is then erected.

Electrician or maintenance crew affix the small components to the top arm of the post, while an Autochart technician installs a small box at the base containing the solar charger and control board.

On November 10, 2008, on behalf of Equibase, Mr. Jack Kelly, the Equibase East Coast Field Supervisor, observed the APS2 at work.

As per Mr. Kelly’s observations, “the system’s accuracy and performance are ready for Thoroughbred racing.”

..there were outstanding questions that still remained to be answered with regard to

Enhanced photo of horses crossing the finish line, visualizing the encoded digital field generated by the APS at each point of call. The timing resolution of the system is 1/1000 second.

The Autochart 2.4 Oz. sensors (fly) fastened to saddle pad with a Velcro strip stayed on and performed very well.

charting Thoroughbred races. They appear to have been addressed successfully with these trials including:

  • Antennae placement and power enabling coverage of a wider range of areas needed on the larger Thoroughbred tracks
  • Improved installation methods using pre-cast bases
  • “Fly” (sensor) placement on the horses for optimal reception
  • Possible interference problems
  • Data collection for all horses running in close approximation to one another

...The accuracy of the horses timed was consistent to those times recorded by the official clocker and the assistant trainer. There is a point nearing the three eighths pole where the system was obstructed by a chain link fence, however it did not appear to hamper the timing of the moves as the system seemed able to pick up the horses when they emerged from the obstructed area and continued to collect pertinent information.”

After completing the optimization process, Autochart is ready to:

Capture time and positioning data accurately.
The APS2 is capable of covering communications and positioning of up to 1-1/2 mile ovals.

It is also capable of handling the timing for moving rail positions on turf tracks.

APS2 timing resolution is 1/1000 second with down-conversion to 1/100, 1/10 and 1/5 second formats.

We offer a wide range of options that include digital graphics, photo finish and enhanced data. Autochart is ready to provide thoroughbred racetracks, the position data and graphic enhancements their current timing provider cannot deliver.

Ask us to quote on just the elements you want, real time running order with margins and leader speed, internet data feed with enhanced data content, including trip and individual speed/margins, graphics and photofinish.
